ExxonMobil today said it pledged $80,000 to help improve children’s healthcare in Central Vietnam in 2019. Accordingly, the company contributed $50,000 to VinaCapital Foundation’s Survive to Thrive programme, which funds critical care medical equipment and training for rural and mountainous districts of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, and $30,000 to Operation Smile Vietnam’s dental care mission for primary students in Quang Nam province.

“ExxonMobil is committed to supporting the communities where we live and work,” said Greg Smith, president and country manager of ExxonMobil Vietnam. “Our continued investment in children’s healthcare over the past nine years has made a significant impact to help the central provinces improve neonatal and paediatric care and health education.”

ExxonMobil’s 2019 contribution to Survive to Thrive funded 14 pieces of medical equipment that have a profound and measurable impact on child mortality in some of the poorest districts in the provinces. The district hospitals receiving the equipment included South Tra My, Phuoc Son, Tien Phuoc in Quang Nam province and Duc Pho and Binh Son in Quang Ngai province, and benefitted more than 3,000 newborn babies per year.

In November 2019, Operation Smile Vietnam provided dental check-ups, consultations, and treatment for nearly 4,500 students from 13 elementary schools in Dien Ban district.

The medical team from nationwide hospitals such as National Hospital of Odonto – Stomatology, Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital, Hanoi Medical University, and Thu Duc Hospital were joined by international experts from Operation Smile Inc. to complete nearly 9,300 dental procedures.

Nearly two million children in Danang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai and northern provinces, including the capital city of Hanoi, have benefited from ExxonMobil’s contributions.
