The 'SPIC - Shaping Dreams' initiative was rolled out in Ya Bal commune, Gia Lai province, on July 24, as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. The programme is designed to improve living standards in the local community, which hosts two SPIC-operated wind farms with a combined capacity of 99 MW.
Quach Vu, general director of SPIC Vietnam, said, "Our employees, together with the company’s matching fund, have donated VND63 million ($2,405) to a series of activities across education, poverty alleviation, and local infrastructure. We hope the community will benefit from clean energy development and also build a strong, lasting relationship with the company."
As part of the initiative, SPIC Vietnam established a fund to support low-income households. The first 10 beneficiaries can use the fund to cover hospital fees in advance and make essential home repairs. In addition, the company installed 12 solar-powered LED high-mast lights at the community football field, allowing it to remain open for evening sports activities.
Regarding education, the company gifted school supplies to 31 disadvantaged primary and secondary school students, including children from ethnic minority groups. These essential learning materials aim to help students study more effectively and support their overall wellbeing.
The company also hosted a friendly volleyball match between Chinese and Vietnamese youth players, which, paired with community support activities, helped strengthen ties and boost intercultural understanding.
Focusing on precision, collaboration, and sustainability, the programme selects locations based on four key factors: proximity to project sites, urgency of local needs, backing from local authorities, and cultural compatibility.
Carried out by a joint task force of SPIC volunteers and local youth, the effort ensures all contributions are transparent, traceable, and results-oriented. Over the next three years, SPIC plans to scale the model to additional rural areas across Vietnam, prioritising education, infrastructure, and livelihood enhancement.
Globally, SPIC operates more than 80 projects across 47 countries and territories, with a total installed capacity of 12.6 GW – over 60 per cent of which comes from renewable sources. In Vietnam, the company has invested over $160 million in the 99 MW Gia Lai Ya Bal wind power project, which supplies electricity to around 140,000 households each year.
