This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Bia Saigon Seven-A-Side National Championship, or the Bia Saigon Cup, launched through a partnership between VietFootball JSC and Bia Saigon, SABECO's leading beer brand.
The tournament is regarded as the most elite competition of its type in Vietnam and has been instrumental in promoting the game over the last decade. The Bia Saigon Cup has long been considered an exciting platform for Vietnamese football talent, allowing them to showcase their skill and passion for the beautiful game.
Bia Saigon has been the main sponsor since 2022, and has committed to extending its sponsorship for another two years.
Teoh Kim Wei, deputy general director of SABECO, underlined the company’s commitment by saying, "As a long-standing advocate of Vietnamese sport, Bia Saigon has consistently demonstrated its dedication through practical contributions to both domestic and international competitions."
"In addition to being the main sponsor of the national football teams, we recognise the importance of nurturing the grassroots of the game and believe that our partnership with VietFootball through the Bia Saigon Cup will play a significant role in fostering the growth of talent in our nation for another two years at least," Wei added.
The 2023 Bia Saigon Cup will be held across three regions, the Northern Region in Hanoi, the Southern Region in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Central Coast and Highland Region in Dak Lak. The eight strongest teams from these regional rounds will compete in the national championship in August.
Support and cooperation from the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Vietnam Football Federation, the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, local communities, and all sponsors, especially Bia Saigon, are essential in sustaining VietFootball’s mission to spread the love of the game and physical exercise in Vietnam.
This is the sixth year that VietFootball has enjoyed a partnership with the Vietnam Television Cable Corporation (VTVCab). Matches and accompanying programmes during the 2022 season were broadcast in their entirety on the VTVCab system, including television, streaming, and social media.
Pham Ngoc Tuan, general director of VietFootball, said, "We will continue to put on the tournament for 2023 and 2024 as a commitment to the community. We believe that with strong support from Bia Saigon, we will bring seven-a-side football in Vietnam to new heights."
"We would like to express our sincere thanks to Bia Saigon, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports, the Vietnam Football Federation, Scheme 641, the Vietnam Cable Television Corporation, Phu Dong Sports Development JSC, other sponsors, media partners, clubs, players, and spectators. They have all been by our side over the past 10 years," added Tuan.
In a joint effort to boost the international recognition of seven-a-side football, VietFootball and Bia Saigon launched the International Seven-A-Side Football Championship in December last year. This inaugural edition, held in Hanoi, attracted teams from Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and provided a platform for good-spirited, cross-border competition. The Vietnamese team was eventually crowned the winner.
