With a commitment to bring the best out of the country, SABECO and Bia Saigon, along with the Sports Administration, are working together to elevate sport in Vietnam and back its talented athletes.

At the event "Vietnam Sports Glory" hosted by the Sports Administration under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST), SABECO awarded VND230 million ($9,750) to 23 athletes in fields such as athletics, swimming, football, cycling, weightlifting, and wushu. The hope is for these young athletes to go on and achieve outstanding things in professional sport and bring glory to the country.

The award is part of the "Vietnam Wins Gold" initiative that was implemented by the MoCST and SABECO last year to support the training and development of young athletes as they prepare for the SEA Games, and raise the profile of Vietnamese sport in general.

The scheme is to spend VND5 billion ($212,000) to support key athletes in training and participating in international competitions. A total of VND750 million ($32,000) was awarded to 50 athletes selected by the General Department of Sports. The remaining support is expected to be disbursed by April this year to support athletes competing abroad and to purchase training equipment.

Venus Teoh Kim Wei, deputy general director of Marketing and Communications at SABECO said “We can’t promote the development of sport in Vietnam without developing our athletes. Athletes can be a great inspiration for everyone and cultivate national pride. So, this scheme focuses on their development, and falls under our corporate mission to bring out the best in Vietnam."

"Bia Saigon promotes both grassroots and national-level sports. Last year alone, we sponsored the 31st SEA Games, the 2023 Bia Saigon Cup, the first-ever international Seven-A-side Bia Saigon tournament, and we are also a top partner of Vietnam's international football teams," Wei added.

“We also have other initiatives, which include building 30 community sports playgrounds in rural areas around the country under our programme to foster sport. This drive is part of our 3-year partnership with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, which aims to provide sport facilities to communities in rural areas and promote a healthy lifestyle. So, all of these are part of our commitment to support and promote the development of sport in Vietnam,” she said.

Sport has played a vital part in Vietnam’s development and the country has achieved many great things in the region for years, however infrastructure facilities for athletes still remain below standard.

This is not the first time SABECO has supported sporting ambition and nurtured the spirit of devotion in Vietnam. The company has long supported the needs of athletes to help build Vietnam's position in the international arena.

SABECO's dedication to sustainable development revolves around four pillars, country, culture, conservation, and consumption, sometimes referred to as the 4Cs. The plan, which was launched in 2019, is aimed at bringing the best out of the country and contributing to the development of a wealthy Vietnam.
