Party General Secretary To Lam, on the first day of his official visit to the city state with his wife, was in attendance at an event organised by Vietjet to inaugurate the new route on March 11, with the first flights expected from May 30 next year.

The 78 weekly flights between Vietnam and Singapore are expected to serve over 500,000 passengers annually. In addition to linking international travellers to Singapore, the route offers seamless connections to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Danang, Bangkok, and over 110 destinations across Vietjet’s network.

"Aviation is a driving force for sustainable development, fostering economic growth, trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange. Vietjet embodies the spirit of innovation and creativity while serving as a key economic driver for Vietnam's integration into the regional and global landscape," said Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, chairwoman of Vietjet.

Vietjet was founded with the vision to put Vietnam on the global aviation map. The inaugural flight, from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore in May 2014, marked an important milestone and the record for 'most smiles on a flight to Singapore'. Since then, the airline has operated over 16,000 flights, transporting nearly three million passengers between the two countries.

The airline has launched dozens of domestic routes, connecting airports across Vietnam and playing a key role in transporting over 13 million passengers to Phu Quoc. This has helped transform the island from an untouched destination into a major tourism hub in the region. Now equipped with over 80,000 hotel rooms and modern infrastructure, Phu Quoc is well-positioned to host major international events like APEC 2027, supporting Vietnam’s deeper integration into the global economy.

"Vietjet also participates in the global supply chain, cooperating with leading aircraft manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus and financial, maintenance, and technology organisations. The airline operates a fleet of 115 aircraft and has placed orders for more than 400 aircraft, serving more than 230 million passengers, including over 115 million international passengers," said Thao.

Also at the ceremony, Vietjet and Carlyle Aviation Partners signed an agreement to finance and purchase aircraft worth $300 million.

Vietjet purchases over one million tonnes of fuel per year from Singapore, reaching a trade turnover of over $1 billion. The bilateral cooperation opens up new opportunities when Singapore continues to be the top investor in Vietnam, with a total capital of $84.5 billion.

Looking ahead to a new era of collaborative development, Vietjet – alongside partners such as HDBank, Vikki Digital Bank, Galaxy Holding, and Phu Long – is rolling out a range of initiatives in finance, trade, and innovation in Singapore. With growing support from both governments, strong business partnerships, and customer trust, Vietjet aims to expand its network beyond physical connectivity, contributing to broader opportunities across communities.
