Sanofi hosts series of seminars on influenza

Sanofi Southeast Asia and India organised a series of scientific seminars on influenza between November 11-13 in Ho Chi Minh City, attracting over 400 healthcare professionals from around the globe.

Key activities included an event to meet with and listen to insights from Global Influenza Initiative (GII) experts, a Sanofi webcast on immunisation featuring contributions from experts from Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, as well as from professional influenza networks such as the Middle East, Eurasia and Africa Influenza Stakeholders Network, and Raise Awareness of Influenza Strategies in Europe.

According to the World Health Organization, there are approximately 3-5 million severe cases of influenza globally each year, with around 290,000–650,000 deaths due to serious complications.

The current data and statistical methods developed to record of Lower Respiratory Tract Infection indicate there are approximately 4,000 hospitalisations, chiefly among the elderly population, due to seasonal flu each year in Vietnam, with about 1,400 deaths.

The seminar reflected Sanofi's commitment to providing the medical community with the latest scientific knowledge. Dr. Kuharaj Mahenthiran, Vietnam Medical Head, Sanofi Vietnam, said, "Our aim is to protect the community from the burden of influenza caused by various strains and reduce the risk of severe complications resulting from infections such as pneumonia, heart attack, and stroke."

Sanofi is a global provider of vaccines to protect against influenza and its complications, stemming from a commitment to improving the quality of clinical trial design and setting higher standards for medical evidence.

Burak Pekmezci, head of Vaccines and Country Lead, Sanofi Vietnam said, "Society’s efforts to prevent influenza must be built on the continually updated knowledge base of healthcare professionals. This series of activities demonstrates our journey towards setting a new standard in influenza prevention in the future, offering advanced and tailored solutions for optimal protection against influenza and its complications for different groups, starting with the elderly."
