As it has one of the most advanced markets for the smart mobility industry, the Taiwan Trade Centre and several Taiwanese businesses sought to share their knowledge and experience at the seminar to create opportunities for cooperation with Vietnamese firms – Vietnam is seen as a potential new market for this industry in the future.
At present, transport makes up 20 per cent of all carbon emissions on the planet, so electric vehicles (EVs) have the potential to contribute significantly to making gains in this area. However, the popularity of EVs heavily depends on the development of charging infrastructure.
Tony Meng, Vietnam country manager at Delta Electronics said, "Vietnam is witnessing substantial growth in terms of smart mobility solutions. EVs and intelligent transportation systems are being increasingly favoured and widely adopted. Looking to the future, we can expect the smart mobility industry here to grow due to government support, increased environmental awareness, and the rising demand for convenient and sustainable mobility."
"EV sales are expected to increase from 10.5 million in 2022 to about 27 million in 2026, and electric passenger cars could grow their market share from 14 to 30 per cent. EVs already account for 42 per cent of all vehicle sales in Europe and over half in China," added Meng.
Tran Kien, deputy general director of Advantech Vietnam Co., Ltd, gave his views on the synergy between intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and advanced public transportation systems (APTS). He emphasised the prevalence of smart technology in the transport industry, particularly the increasing prevalence of EVs and their charging infrastructure.
Investments in smart transport have been climbing, but not dramatically. According to Global Market Insights, the total in 2022 stood at $43.7 trillion, which mainly focused on roads, followed by railways, aviation, and maritime.
"The annual growth is anticipated at 10 per cent – reaching $100 trillion by 2032 – and the highest rates are currently in North America. Therefore, there is huge potential across Asia and in Vietnam," Kien said.
"ITS covers traffic lights and flows, safety alerts, electronic signs, non-stop toll booths, and smart charging stations, and these work in combination with APTS (including buses, subways, and metro systems), which all are connected and managed by the most advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), AI, and 5G," he explained.
"The use of smart technology to manage transportation infrastructure is becoming increasingly common in various provinces and cities. Mobile applications and real-time monitoring systems are being deployed to improve safety and enhance traffic management. Alongside this, public transportation projects like smart bus systems and intelligent parking solutions, as well as enhancements to personal transit are being vigorously implemented," continued Kien.
At the seminar, a representative of the Taiwan Trade Centre introduced the 2024 exhibition line-up that will help to drive the development of the smart mobility industry and create a platform for businesses to showcase their latest innovations in an international environment.
These exhibitions will help promote collaboration and the exchange of ideas, while enhancing the reputation and presence of the smart mobility industry globally.
