Nui Phao fosters safe working environment for employees

4,114 real-time tests and 11,937 rapid tests taken of Nui Phao Mining Co., Ltd. have all had negative results

Nui Phao is not only a major enterprise in Thai Nguyen province but is also known for its effective solutions for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vo Tien Dung, director of External Relations, Community, and Environment said that Nui Phao Mining has established a Steering Committee for COVID-19 Disease Prevention and Control, a COVID-19 Rapid Response Team and a COVID-19 Safety Group to promptly assess and continuously update employees of the COVID-19 situation and to timely come up with actions and solutions.

Nui Phao Mining also regularly checks, raises awareness, and helps employees to take measures to prevent COVID-19 at work such as following 5K regulations, installing and using the Bluezone app, and strictly enforcing social distancing.

In addition, the company also conducts the “stay at work” production model for some work positions to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection while maintaining production and operations at the factory. Nui Phao Mining has also arranged a quarantine place at Nui Coc lake, Thai Nguyen that can accommodate 200 employees in case of need.

Nui Phao Mining also implements regular PCR tests for all employees and contractors working on site. So far, 4,114 people tested by real-time PCR method and 11,937 took rapid tests, with all negative results.

In order to improve efficiency and proactively handle bad situations, Nui Phao has also developed emergency scenarios and holds regular emergency drills for finding F0 cases at the workplace.

Nui Phao Mining is also trying to source vaccines and paying for vaccination for employees. The company established a Masaners’ fund, together with its owner Masan Group, to support quarantined workers and conduct COVID-19 tests every seven days for employees and contractors.

1,275 company employees and contractors have received their first shot and 986 have received both so far.

Besides taking care of employees, Nui Phao Mining has allocated a large portion of its annual budget to support the socioeconomic development of the local community.

Although production and business activities were greatly affected by the pandemic, in the first half of 2021, the company still fulfilled its obligations by contributing VND355 billion($15.43 million) to the state budget, to the socioeconomic development of Thai Nguyen province.

Last June, the company donated 1,000 cloth masks to Thai Nguyen People’s Committee and contributed $13,000 to the province’s pandemic prevention fund, raising the total amount of donations for Thai Nguyen province to nearly VND1 billion ($43,480).

“Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we still maintain stable operations and ensure a stable workforce. Nobody has been made redundant due to COVID-19. The turnover rate is around 6 per cent and we are still looking to hire new people,” Dung affirmed.
