AmCham continues to recognise MSD Vietnam’s commitment to transparency, good corporate governance, and sustainable business practices |
MSD, known as Merck & Co. Inc., Rahway, N.J., in the United States and Canada, came to Vietnam nearly 30 years ago and has contributed to the development of the healthcare industry.
In 2008, it introduced the first HPV vaccine in Vietnam and accelerated partnership programmes to protect millions of women and girls from cervical cancer.
MSD is fully committed to supporting the global strategy of the World Health Organisation to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer. To fulfill the unmet need for personalised education, MSD recently introduced Minah, an AI virtual wellness coach, to raise awareness of HPV protection among the younger generation.
The company is proud of being the first to introduce immuno-oncology in Vietnam in December 2017. This month, it was once again recognised by the Bright Future Fund for being one of the most generous companies in helping eligible cancer patients access innovative treatments through its Patient Access Programmes, which have been implemented since 2018.
Aiming to lower the company’s carbon footprint, in July, MSD relocated its Hanoi office to the first high-rise building in the city with LEED-gold certification, which meets standards for reducing electricity usage and protecting the environment. This month, MSD Vietnam has also inaugurated its new office in Ho Chi Minh City.
Both new workplaces are designed according to internationally certified standards and have modern and well-equipped facilities to improve all employees' physical and mental health. The opening of the new offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, together with the inauguration of the newly expanded warehouse (with quadrupled capacity) in the same year, marks a milestone in MSD's commitment to continuous investment in the quest to become a trusted healthcare partner in Vietnam.
Moreover, the annual activities that MSD has been pursuing include beach clean-ups and blood donations. MSD Vietnam volunteers have been contributing to the removal of tonnes of waste from Nha Trang and Phan Thiet beaches and encouraging the reduction of single-use plastics. For two consecutive years, MSD Vietnam has hosted Blood Donor Day and collected nearly 200 units of blood, contributing to saving the lives of patients in need.
