The information was revealed at a meeting between Preben Elnef, vice president of the LEGO Group, and Vo Van Minh, Chairman of Binh Duong People's Committee, on January 9.
Elnef noted that the factory is anticipated to reach an important phase in 2024 as it shifts from planning to production. LEGO has been joining forces with its partners to secure a 110kV grid connection and install solar power systems for manufacturing with a view to reaching net-zero emissions.
This reflects the group's commitment to ensuring efficient production and contributing positively to the environment.
Construction of the factory began in November 2022 at Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park III in Binh Duong. The project is slated to produce high-quality, domestically made products in the second half of 2024. When operational, the project is expected to generate thousands of jobs for locals and contribute to the economic growth of Binh Duong.
Minh highlighted the attention the local authority has paid to the LEGO factory and appreciated the project's progress. He pledged to provide support and help resolve any difficulties for LEGO Group, ensuring it enjoys the most favourable business environment and achieves strong results when the project is put into operation.
The factory brings the Danish toymaker's total manufacturing sites globally to seven, and is its second in Asia. It is also Lego’s first carbon-neutral plant, using electricity from rooftop solar panels and the nearby solar farm.
Choosing Vietnam brings LEGO closer to some of its most important markets. Shortening the supply chain means LEGO can reduce its environmental impact and respond quickly to consumer demand. With this in mind, the group hopes to meet the growth in demand in its markets and fulfil its responsibilities as a good corporate citizen.
