Lego Group's vice chairman and CEO of Lego Manufacturing Vietnam, Preben Elnef, has announced a significant milestone in the construction of their manufacturing facility in Binh Duong.
The company, in collaboration with its construction partner, marked the topping-out ceremony for the moulding building and celebrated achieving a remarkable 3 million safe working hours on November 8.
“In addition to this achievement, Lego Group is now advancing further towards the completion of a manufacturing plant valued at over $1 billion in Vietnam,” Elnef said.
Since the groundbreaking ceremony held in November 2022, Lego has reached 26 per cent of the total construction volume for phase one of the facility.
Vo Hoang Lam, CEO of Coteccons Construction JSC, the project's general contractor, said, “Our team is committed to completing the project without any labour-related incidents, and we are confident in our progress."
Concurrently with the construction activities led by the contractor, Lego Group has commenced preparations for the labour force required to operate the factory.
In the near term, approximately 100 individuals will be recruited during the latter months of 2023, with the workforce expanding to 500 employees by 2024 to ensure commencement of production in the latter half of that year.
The projected workforce for factory operations is expected to reach 4,000 employees, thereby generating substantial employment opportunities and significant revenue contributions to the local economy.
Spanning an expansive 44 hectares, Lego Group's manufacturing plant stands as one of the largest foreign invested projects in Binh Duong and represents a substantial Danish investment in Vietnam.
