Vientiane – Officials of Laos and Cuba have met in Vientiane to discuss measures to strengthen cooperation in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
The Lao delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Thongphath Vongmany as the Cuban side was headed by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Maury Hechavarria Bermudez.
At the meeting, Thongphath spoke highly of the Cuban delegation's visit to Laos, noting that the trip contributed to strengthening the two countries’ relations and cooperation, mutual assistance and understanding based on the strategic friendship, common ideology and socialist pathway.
The Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba signed a memorandum of cooperation in October 2022.
The agreement aims to promote the exchange of scientific and technical information, exchange of experience on development of climate resistant breeds, introduction of resistant crops, integrated pest control, eco-agriculture management, animal husbandry and animal products.
The agreement also prioritises cooperation on artificial insemination, animal breed upgrading, and forestry.
