Nguyen Anh Tuan, general director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), had a meeting with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), the South Korean state-run utility company, on June 11, where both sides signed an extension of their existing MoU on cooperation.

"We consider KEPCO to be an important partner, and we greatly appreciate the projects we have worked on together over the past few years. In particular, the Vung Ang II build-operate-transfer (BOT) project," said Tuan.

KEPCO President Kim Dong-cheol said, "Besides Vung Ang II and the Nghi Son 2 thermal power plant, KEPCO intends to further expand its cooperation in renewable energy, especially with EVN."

"We hope to continue to support EVN to develop and stabilise the electricity supply in Vietnam, and become more efficient. Additionally, we are interested in exchanging and sharing its experience of digital transformation, intelligent digital power plants, and liquefied natural gas with EVN," he added.

KEPCO's power generation projects in Vietnam have a total capacity of 2,400 MW, making up around 7.3 per cent of the country's private power generation and the South Korean firm is responsible for supplying a large amount of the electricity needed in northern Vietnam, including Hanoi.
