Duong Anh Duc, Deputy Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee |
On the morning of July 25, Ho Chi Minh City Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control held a press conference on the ongoing situation of the pandemic in the city.
Duong Anh Duc, Deputy Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee shared that the city will provide 5,000 doses of Moderna vaccine to Vingroup.
He said, “Vingroup is mobilising a huge and critical force to support Ho Chi Minh City in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The group is also one of the sponsors for pandemic prevention activities in Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, including funding to buy vaccines. In particular, the group has provided much-needed assistance, with more than 2,000 ventilators to address the urgent demand for COVID-19 treatment.”
“In addition, Vingroup also actively supports PCR testing. Therefore, it is necessary and reasonable for the city to 'lend' Vingroup vaccines in advance so that Vinmec Hospital, Vingroup’s subsidiary, can accelerate the mass vaccination programme in Ho Chi Minh City,” Duc noted.
“In case other corporations follow suit and request assistance in vaccinating their workforce, Ho Chi Minh City will consider their proposals because in general, these initiatives are beneficial to the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out progress. However, the city will also have to balance the supply and consider what will be the best approach,” he said.
Vingroup is also reported to be in negotiation with US-based Arcturus Therapeutics company for international cooperation in technological transfer for vaccine production.
