Fulbright University Vietnam has received a $1.5 million grant from Google to advance AI research and education in Vietnam.

The grant was announced on August 19 by Dr. Scott Fritzen, president of Fulbright University Vietnam, during an AI discussion between Google’s chief scientist Jeff Dean and students at the university.

Specifically, Fulbright University Vietnam will integrate AI into all academic programmes, develop AI-related majors and minors in its undergraduate curriculum, and equip students with AI application skills.

The grant will also be allocated to recruit additional AI experts to expand teaching, support AI-related research by faculties and students, and foster collaborative initiatives with academic and industry partners in Vietnam and internationally.

"AI is reshaping the world in unprecedented ways. Fulbright is committed to responsibly harnessing this potential. Google’s support will significantly contribute to integrating AI into our academic programmes, demonstrating Fulbright’s commitment to training future leaders capable of addressing global challenges," said Fritzen.

Dr. Le Viet Quoc, a distinguished scientist at Google DeepMind and a member of the board of trustees at Fulbright University Vietnam, said, "Vietnam is well-positioned to exploit AI in its socioeconomic development. Google is committed to supporting the workforce and businesses to be ready and quickly adapt to AI trends."
