Gamuda Land granted scholarships to disadvantaged students in Ho Chi Minh City |
The "Back to school" scholarships sponsored by Gamuda Land have been awarded to 100 excellent students who have difficult circumstances but make strong efforts to overcome challenges. Each "Back to school" scholarship is valued at VND5 million ($220 million). The campaign aims to provide timely motivation for persistent students to continue pursuing their university dreams.
This is a part of “GLCares” – the series of practical corporate social responsibility activities that the leading town-maker from Malaysia have implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak for the past six months until now. GLCares provides support to various groups in the community from frontline workers to vulnerable people during this tough time.
In addition, Gamuda Land has donated 600 sets of beddings and pillows to No.8 Field Hospital and 600 sets of personal protective equipment to the Ho Chi Minh City COVID-19 Resuscitation Center. The donations aim to create better living and working conditions for frontline workers in the centre. Previously, the company and its staff also contributed more than VND330 million ($14,350) to the COVID-19 Vaccine Fund.
Gamuda Land has also cooperated with the Tan Phu district government to sponsor thousands of food packages and cash for disadvantaged people in the area and neighboring districts. A portion of that is also given to the medical team and volunteers who are working day and night in the quarantine zones.
Furthermore, Gamuda Land and its employees have mobilised donations to build a "Zero Dong Food Bank", which provides a total of more than 27 tonnes of rice, 2,700 instant noodle packages, and 20 tonnes of vegetables along with many other necessities and medical supplies to support sanitation workers and security forces in Celadon City and the needy and poor people in Tan Phu district.

In addition, Gamuda Land has donated a total of 330kg of rice and hundreds of essential food items like eggs, milk, vegetables, and instant noodles, among others, to five shelters with over 300 disadvantaged children and people with disabilities. Gamuda Land hopes these small gifts will bring joy, hope, as well as energise people in difficult circumstances to overcome this difficult period.
Angus Liew, general director of Gamuda Land in Ho Chi Minh City, shared, “Business development must always be associated with corporate social responsibility. Therefore, Gamuda Land implements GLCares in all countries where the company is operating. In Vietnam, GLCares wishes to contribute a little of its strength to support people in difficulty, and to ease the burden with the Vietnamese government during this stressful period."
In estimation, the total support value of the GLCares programme has nearly reached VND3 billion ($130,430) so far. The business leader said that Gamuda Land will continue deploying charitable activities of GLCares to spread empathy and support the community until the COVID-19 epidemic situation is more stable.
