To strengthen links and create motivation for tourism development between Dien Bien and other northwestern provinces and cities, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has decided to select Dien Bien province to host National Tourism Year 2024, with the theme "Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experience".
At a press conference on February 21, Vu A Bang, Deputy Chairman of Dien Bien People's Committee, said that Dien Bien is the only province in the northwest region with flights connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, giving it the potential to develop tourism.
“During the Dien Bien culture and tourism week that took place in Ho Chi Minh City last year, we saw that tourists from the southeast and southwest were interested in exploring Dien Bien's culture and tourism. This is an opportunity to build sound stimulus policies, invest in infrastructure, and upgrade services to attract more tourists to the province," Bang shared.
According to the vice chairman, 2023 was a breakthrough year for the local tourism industry with 1.1 million visitors, surpassing the target of 900,000 set at the beginning of the year, including 7,500 international arrivals.
In 2024, Dien Bien aims to welcome about 1.3 million tourists, raising total tourism revenue to $92.8 million.
National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 is a national cultural - economic - social event, associated with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).
