The event was attended by leaders of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), relevant units under the MoCST, and Thua Thien-Hue’s Department of Tourism, along with other provincial departments.
Reporting at the session, Nguyen Van Phuc, director of Thua Thien-Hue Department of Tourism, said, “The province has developed a proposal for the 2025 National Tourism, with 62 activities to be hosted by Thua Thien-Hue, spanning all four seasons, each with its own highlights.”
The highlight will be the opening ceremony, accompanied by a grand fireworks display to mark the 50th anniversary of Thua Thien-Hue's liberation. This event is slated to take place at the end of March 2025.
According to Phuc, the events aim to showcase and promote Vietnam's rich cultural heritage along with the distinctive features of Thua Thien-Hue. “The goal is to attract both domestic and international visitors, providing a major boost to tourism and contributing to the province's overall socioeconomic development,” he emphasised.
Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of the MoCST, shared the reasons for selecting Hue to host the National Tourism Year in 2025. "Cultural values, landscapes, and architecture have built Hue’s tourism brand into one of the key destinations on the national tourism map. With its abundant resources and well-developed tourism infrastructure, Hue was the obvious choice to host the 2025 National Tourism Year,” said Phong.
Nguyen Trung Khanh, director of the VNAT expressed his hopes that the 2025 National Tourism Year would have a positive impact, leading to significant growth for Hue.
"This marks the second time Hue will host the National Tourism Year, following its first in 2013. Usually, localities that host the National Tourism Year experience substantial growth in tourism, with notable increases in both visitor numbers and revenue." said Khanh. "The media impact and results from tourism activities become highly visible, and many provinces and cities have capitalised on their strengths, boosting tourism connections after hosting the event.”
For the theme of the 2025 National Tourism Year, Khanh suggested that Hue should focus on the promotion and celebration of the city's cultural heritage, which is a core strength of its tourism sector.
Nguyen Thanh Binh, permanent Vice Chairman of Thua Thien-Hue People's Committee, also highlighted the need to promote Thua Thien-Hue's cultural values and attract both domestic and international tourists. "Additionally, the province should participate in overseas promotions to boost its image for the 2025 National Tourism Year,” Binh advised.
