The Hon La International Port development will cost an estimated $92 million and cover an area of 39.22 hectares.

The completed port will serve Hon La Economic Zone and industrial parks in the province and transfer goods to Laos and northeast Thailand.
The project’s construction is divided into two phases. Phase 1 will see the construction of two berths with a total length of 470m, able to receive general cargo vessels with a capacity of up to 50,000 tonnes, and bulk carriers with a capacity of up to 70,000 tonnes. The expected capacity for phase 1 is about three million tonnes a year.
The total construction area of phase 1 is around 25.7ha.
Phase 2, encompassing the construction of two more berths with a combined length of 500m along with a synchronous logistics system, able to receive vessels with a capacity of up to 100,000DWT.
The total expected capacity for the two phases is about six million tonnes a year.

Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026 while phase 2 is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Quang Binh People's Committee Tran Phong said, "Hon La International Port is an important milestone in developing the region's seaport infrastructure and opens up opportunities to boost trade in Quang Binh."
Phong requested Hon La Port JSC to fulfill its commitments and investment policies, ensure safety, efficiency, and fully meet technical, quality, progress, and legal requirements.
“Hon La International Port is of great significance to the province’s socioeconomic development. We believe that when put into operation, the port will become an important driving force, contributing to the stronger development of Quang Binh in the future," added Phong.
