On July 12, 2019 at Phu Cat Airport, Bamboo Airways welcomed its one-millionth passenger, marking a memorable milestone in the fledgeling airline’s development.

The event featured vice chairman of the Binh Dinh People's Committee Nguyen Phi Long, deputy director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam Vo Huy Cuong, and Bamboo Airways’ deputy general directors Nguyen Ngoc Trong and Bui Quang Dung, as well as representatives from the airline’s different departments.

A memorable milestone

Nguyen Van Truong, a 42-year-old Hanoian, was Bamboo Airways' one-millionth passenger travelling from Hanoi to Quy Nhon on flight QH1213 managed by FLC Group, a major developer in Vietnam.

The lucky passenger was given numerous gifts by the airline, such as a first-class Bamboo Club membership card and a resort voucher at any five-star FLC resort venue, among others.

"I flied with Bamboo Airways several times, but never thought that I would be the one-millionth passenger of the airline. Not only was I welcomed by Bamboo Airways’ enthusiastic and hospitable attendants, but I also enjoyed the airline’s high-quality services. This is an unforgettable experience to me," said Nguyen Van Truong.

At the event, general director Bui Quang Dung said, "Welcoming the one-millionth passenger is a milestone marking the tireless efforts of Bamboo Airways’ Board of Management and thousands of employees.”

According to him, the ceremony was to express Bamboo Airways’ sincere gratitude to the customers and also its commitment to ceaselessly improve its products and services, bringing better flight experiences to millions of passengers in the future.

Promoting the green flight initiative

Not only welcoming the one-millionth passenger, flight QH1213 was also a green flight which restricted the use of disposable plastic products after the success of the first eco-friendly flight in June 2019.

Bamboo Airways’ “Fly Green” flights replace disposable plastic productswith recyclable or biodegradable materials.

For example, disposable plastic items were replaced with paper cups, paper straws, and bamboo trays. Nylon bags were replaced with bags using biodegradable materials, the meals were wrapped with parchment paper, nylon blanket bags were replaced with non-woven bags, and naturally-derived materials were used for utensils such as paper straws.

On this flight, passengers were quite excited about the meaningful gifts advocating environmental protection. This is one of the practical activities through which Bamboo Airways is helping to change passengers’ consumption habits, creating a greener and cleaner environment.

Prior to the "Green Flight" programme, Bamboo Airways also launched a long-term strategy for environmental protection including standardising its fleet with fuel-efficient aircraft such as Airbus A321 neo narrow-body aircraft and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner wide-body aircraft.

It is expected that by 2020, Bamboo Airways’ fleet will reach 30-40 aircraft, including these models. The first wide-body aircraft are expected to be handed over to Bamboo Airways by Boeing in the fourth quarter of next year.

Earlier, in order to facilitate its operation, Bamboo Airways was planning to lease aircraft from its partners, and to put Boeing 787-9 aircraft into operation this year.

At the moment, Bamboo Airways operates 24 domestic and international routes. In July 2019, Bamboo Airways will also welcome its 9,000th flight, with the average load reaching 90 per cent and the OPT rate of 93.8 per cent – the highest rate in the Vietnamese aviation industry in the first half of 2019 – and the absolute safety rate of 100 per cent.
