Ba Ria-Vung Tau hosts conference to introduce provincial plan

The conference took place at The Grand Ho Tram in Muyen Moc district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

It attracted nearly 600 guests who are leaders of central ministries and branches, representatives of embassies and consulates of countries in Vietnam, representatives of trade and investment promotion organisations and associations, as well as leaders of localities in the southeast region.

Addressing the conference, Pham Viet Thanh, Secretary of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Party Committee, said, "Ba Ria-Vung Tau province boasts an important strategic position as the gateway to the East Sea of the southeast region and the country. In the next two years, large-scale infrastructure projects in the pipeline will transform the southeast region and Ba Ria-Vung Tau into a place converging all the conditions to unlock the potential in industry, seaports, logistics, tourism, urban areas, and high-quality services."

Along with existing advantages and efforts to reform the investment and business environment, Ba Ria-Vung Tau has become a potential destination on the country's foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction map.

As of today, the province has attracted foreign investment of more than $33 billion and domestic investment capital of $16 billion. In the first quarter of 2024, the province registered more than $1.50 billion in FDI capital and over $1 billion in domestic capital.

"We are clearly aware that good planning will result in good development space, which in turn attracts good investors and good projects," Thanh said.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau's provincial planning for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, was approved by the government on December 16, 2023.

According to the plan, by 2030, Ba Ria-Vung Tau will become a centrally-run city with $18,000–18,500 in per-capita regional GDP. Ba Ria-Vung Tau also aims to become a national marine economic hub and a maritime service centre for Southeast Asia.

The province is set to become an international-class, high-quality tourism centre and one of the largest industrial centres in the Southeastern region. By 2050, the province will achieve the net-zero emissions target in line with the government's commitment at COP26.

At the conference, investors, experts, and representatives of businesses also shared their thoughts about the investment environment, the impact of planning, and suggestions to promote foreign investment and contribute to the sustainable socioeconomic development of the province.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau also awarded investment registration certificates and investment policy decisions to 15 domestic and foreign-invested projects. At the same time, the province also announced a list of 92 projects calling for investments from now to 2030. These large-scale projects play a vital role in promoting comprehensive and sustainable development with a long-term vision of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
