Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) submitted a report to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) on July 29, detailing the progress of construction and proposed modifications to the Long Thanh International Airport project.
ACV proposed to start the construction of Runway 2 during the first phase and to add the grading work for the T3 passenger terminal area. The proposal is based on ACV’s calculations for passenger demand at Terminal 1 with a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo per year.

According to ACV, the construction of Runway 1 is progressing several months ahead of schedule, with technical operations expected to be completed before the end of April next year. So far, the entire substructure of the runway has been fully completed.
Additionally, the corporation considers two runways to be crucial for a large-capacity airport. Under the current conditions, ACV estimates that the construction of Runway 2 will take about 16–18 months.
ACV also revealed that Terminal 3 will be constructed on the same side as Terminal 1, meaning grading of the T3 area will be necessary to avoid dust and pollution during the operation of the first terminal.
The Long Thanh project is set to cover 5,000 hectares with an estimated total investment of $13.74 billion, with construction divided into three phases.
In the first phase, Long Thanh will develop one runway, a passenger terminal, and supporting facilities, with an expected completion date in 2026. To date, key elements including the passenger terminal, connecting roads, runway, taxiways, and control tower have been built, with progress ahead of schedule so far.
