On November 17, Kon Tum People's Committee announced the decision to sanction administrative violations for the forest land encroachment of Tan Tan Nhat JSC while this company was implementing a wind power project.
Specifically, Tan Tan Nhat has trespassed on to 155,700 square kilometres of production forest land and more than 89,000 sq.m of agricultural land during the construction of the Tan Tan Nhat-Dak Glei wind power project.
Tan Tan Nhat was fined VND380 million ($16,000) for the violation and had to pay more than VND422 million ($17,800) in illegal costs.
Previously, on October 11, an interdisciplinary delegation from Kon Tum province inspected the site and made the discovery.
Kon Tum Department of Construction also decided to impose an administrative fine of more than VND170 million ($7,200) on Tan Tan Nhat JSC due to violations that included not sending reports to the competent agencies and providing incomplete project information and progress.
The project began without the approved construction drawings, and some of the selected organisations and individuals did not hold the qualifications to participate in the construction.
The Tan Tan Nhat-Dak Glei wind power plant project was approved by Kon Tum People's Committee in Decision No.866/QD-UBND dated September 2020. It is valued at is nearly VND1.9 trillion ($80 million), and the operational period runs for 50 years from the date of approval.
The plant has a capacity of 50MW, derived from 18 wind turbines supplied by Windey Energy Technology Group from China that has just been claimed for involving an accident of wind farm plant in China with one death.
The usable land area in Kon Tum province spans 24.55 hectares, of which the land use area with a limited term covers 14.55ha.
Tan Tan Nhat JSC – based in Dak Glei district – is a venture between Oasis No.1 Power Energy Development JSC and Dien Xanh Gia Lai Investment Energy JSC.
