The new infections include 40 locally-transmitted cases and six entering Vietnam. The 40 cases include Hanoi (24), Hai Duong (1), Dien Bien (1), Ha Nam (1), Nghe An (1), Hung Yen (4), Nam Dinh (1), Danang (5), Phu tho (1), and Vinh Phuc (1).
Up till now, the total number of people who came into close contact with COVID-19 infections and those who enter Vietnam reached over 42,000.
At the meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on the afternoon of May 7, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said that this period of COVID-19 development is more serious than previous ones because of varied sources of infections, many variants (variants identified in the UK and in India), thus the speed of transmission is faster and higher.
"In the upcoming time, keeping track of the pandemic and controlling it will be more difficult. Many more infections will be detected with unidentified sources of infections," Long noted. “Cities and provinces should be on high alert.”
