National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will officially trial the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Pass mobile application on flights from Narita Airport, Japan to Danang from July 15.

Vietnam Airlines will begin testing the IATA Travel Pass on a flight between Narita and Danang

With the move, Vietnam Airlines has become the first carrier in Vietnam to trial the IATA Travel Pass mobile application. The app will be available for use on Flight VN301 from Narita to Danang on July 15 and July 23.

This is part of the cooperation programme between the IATA and Vietnam Airlines under an agreement the two sides signed in May.

Passengers over 18 holding a certificate of a negative COVID-19 test from a testing facility registered with the IATA will be eligible to use the IATA Travel Pass .

At present, IATA Travel Pass is being trialled by many airlines worldwide. Vietnam Airlines hopes that the success of the trial will be the foundation for the government to consider wider recognition, thus enabling airlines to resume international flights in the future.

In a related development, EU member countries have rolled out the EU digital health passport on July 1, 2021, marking an important step for free travel for EU and international visitors.
