Vietnam Airlines sets ambition targets for 2025

This year, Vietnam Airlines plans to boost operational capacity and efficiency, and expand its market. Investing in a new-generation fleet is one of the strategic tasks. The airline will buy 50 modern narrow-body aircraft with a total investment of more than VND92 trillion ($3.68 billion), expected to be implemented from 2030 to 2035, aiming to increase fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and improve competitiveness.

The carrier is also expanding investment in technical infrastructure at strategic airports such as Long Thanh and Noi Bai, while enhancing ancillary services such as engineering, catering, and logistics to complete the value chain.

In the first half of 2025, the airline opened five new international routes to Beijing, Bangkok, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Busan, and resumed four important ones to Moscow, Bali, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong. Meanwhile, two key routes to Milan and Copenhagen will be operated from July and December this year, respectively.

In 2025, Vietnam Airlines aims to transport 25.4 million passengers and 346,000 tonnes of cargo, up 11.6 per cent and 11.5 per cent, respectively, compared to 2024. Its consolidated revenue is expected to reach over VND116.71 trillion ($4.67 billion), up 3.5 per cent on-year.

The airline is aiming to become the second largest airline in Southeast Asia in terms of scale, to be among the top 10 most popular airlines in Asia, to maintain 4-star service standards, and to reach international 5-star standards.

To realise this goal, the airline has implemented a comprehensive overhaul, including restructuring its assets, capital, and investment portfolio, and innovating its governance model.

Digital transformation continues to be its strategic priority. Vietnam Airlines is stepping up cooperation with technology partners such as VNPT and FPT to provide wifi services, modernise systems, increase automation, and improve customer experience. A comprehensive electronic identification system has also been put into operation.

Regarding sustainable development, Vietnam Airlines is building an environmental, social, and governance roadmap with specific goals on reducing carbon emissions, using fuel economically, and aiming to research and apply sustainable aviation fuel.

The airline is focusing on developing high-quality human resources, building a modern corporate culture, and enhancing management capacity in line with international standards.

In 2024, Vietnam Airlines reported consolidated revenue of VND112.77 trillion ($4.51 billion) and consolidated profit after tax of VND7.95 trillion ($101.37 million), marking the highest level in the history of the carrier.
