Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong made the announcement at an April 24 working session with a Swedish business delegation led by President of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce (SwedCham) in Singapore Jan Stjernstrom, who are currently seeking opportunities to expand cooperation and investment in the city.
Mr Phong briefed the guests on the city’s challenges and development orientations and appreciated Swedish businesses’ activeness in enhancing their cooperation with HCM City, especially in high-tech and innovation solutions.
The city plans to construct 6 Metro lines, with Metro line 1 currently in the process of being built. It called on foreign investors to collaborate with the city to carry out the construction of the remaining lines, offering an opportunity for Swedish businesses to consider investing in this field, said Mr Phong.
Mr Phong added that the city is facing difficulties in health care such as infrastructure, equipment, human resources and overloaded hospitals, and urged Swedish businesses to partner with the city in transferring technologies and new medical management models as well as providing support for training medical staff.
In reply, Jan Stjernstrom said SwedCham has 300 Swedish companies and many of them have cooperated with Vietnam, including HCM City – one of Asia’s most rapidly growing cities.
He said the visit aims to expand trade exchanges between Sweden and Vietnam, particularly HCM City, as businesses want to increase their commercial investment and FDI capital in the city.
Some businesses have also shown a desire to open representative offices in Vietnam and HCM City in the coming time.
