Sakura trees beautify springtime in the City of Peace

For the third year now, on February 23, members of AEON Group and volunteers together held the sakura tree planting event at Hoa Binh Park to beautify Hanoi – the City of Peace.

The sakura tree planting event at Hoa Binh Park was first launched in 2017. After two years of implementation, the AEON Environment Foundation, supported by AEONMALL Vietnam, has planted a total of 700 sakura trees in Hoa Binh Park. In 2019, to continue the journey toward the goal of planting 1 million green trees set by the capital authorities, 1,000 sakura trees from Japan have been brought to Vietnam and planted by 350 volunteers from AEON Group’s subsidiaries, Mizuho Bank, as well as partners and university students.

To bring the 1,000 sakura trees to Vietnam then help the trees bloom, many Japanese and Vietnamese soil experts have worked together, conducting studies and tests to find the best fertilisation methods, aiming to maintain the beauty and quality of Japanese sakura in Vietnam. Experts from the two countries hope to raise the rate of surviving sakura trees from about 90 per cent in 2017 and 2018 even higher in 2019.

Sharing about the journey to beautify Vietnam, Naoki Hayashi, executive director of AEON Environmental Foundation, said, “As a business that aims towards sustainable development, we pay significant focus on planting and protecting green trees. This is also our motivation to carry out practical activities since our first days in Vietnam. In 2010, we planted 75,000 trees in Thua Thien Hue; after that in 2014, 15,000 trees were planted at Ba Vi National Park; we have also planted 1,700 as of now in Hoa Binh Park. We are honoured to join hands to preserve a beautiful Vietnam, as well as contribute to bilateral relations between Japan and Vietnam.”

A whole 1,000 sakura trees were imported from Japan for the event
