Revellers have a blast at annual Danang fest |
The Danang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) was officially launched on June 2, with a message to connect people of different ages and cultures to the city.
The central city of Danang has devoted concerted efforts to prepare the most complete and safe festival and a series of accompanying events.
In particular, the DIFF organisers, thanks to Global 2000 Fireworks Consulting Company, have fully prepared the event infrastructure.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of Danang People’s Committee Le Trung Chinh said that the success of the festival in previous years confirmed the attractiveness of the event in the hearts of both locals and tourists.
“This year’s DIFF is special as we have been waiting for a long time to be able to enjoy these memorable moments together tonight by the Han River. The DIFF will be a bridge to help clear all barriers for everyone to enjoy artistic values and cultural beauty together for peace and prosperity,” Chinh noted.
With teams from the United Kingdom, Poland, Canada, France, Finland, Australia, Italy, and Vietnam, the festival reflects different themes such as peace for mankind, love having no borders, conquering dreams, and dancing with nature.
Enchanting skies
With hundreds of thousands of people and tourists watching fireworks along the Han River, the opening night of DIFF 2023 lit up the coastal city and the country’s tourism industry.
The host team Vietnam told the story of peace and friendship, while Finland expressed intense emotions and the love of life.
Danang Fireworks Team gave the audience an eye-catching kick-off with 4,500 fireworks and over 128 different colour effects.
The beginning of the performance was a combination of music and fireworks, with the tones of the lute as heard in “The Voice of Han River,” designed to evoke emotions and awaken the audience’s senses.
In the second part, the competition team changed direction and introduced vibrant music and lively fireworks effects, demonstrating the resilience and determination of the people of Danang in overcoming the pandemic.
The highlight of the performance was the final part, with the fireworks’ intensity reaching its peak and hundreds of fireworks connected like interlocking arms, representing the love and friendship among people around the world.
Next, the passionate sound of rock music emerged and the sky above the Han River burst with shimmering light in a colourful symphony of layers of enchanting light.
At the previous event in 2019, Finland came to Danang to tell the story of the inhabitants of the Nordic sea. This year, their story was about the journey back to life after the pandemic hit.
With a variety of fireworks techniques, each firework beat was perfectly choreographed with cascading and rotating light as the sound of pop and rock took the audience through the emotional ups and downs of the past three years.
Both performances conveyed the message of peace and happiness, giving the audience joyful and contemplative emotions. The rhythm of the fireworks bursting in the sky seemed to match the beat of hearts watching on, promoting solidarity and a common vision for a peaceful future.
Applause resounded after the final fireworks of the Finnish team, closing the emotional opening night of the DIFF 2023.
The opening night is the highlight of the fireworks season in Danang, gathering activities and events, including the participation of leaders and tourists from all over the world to witness the enthusiasm of Danang’s people, from the careful preparation to the joyful reception of guests.
The festival is also the start of a series of events that will take place in the beloved central region, including Nha Trang’s Khanh Hoa Beach Festival and Ninh Thuan’s Grape and Wine Festival.

Vivid sights and sounds
Leveraging high-tech systems and a modern-designed stage, the DIFF 2023 highlights Danang’s status as Asia’s leading destination for events and festivals. After the launch night, scores of visitors were amazed by the intricate lighting and eye-catching stage.
Nguyen Anh Hung, a visitor from Hanoi, said, “My family was excited about the opening ceremony. From the spacious stage to the vibrant music and performances of the artists, it creates a very wonderful overall effect, both in sight and sound.”
This year’s audiences can experience the lively sound system as events are livestreamed on Cinewav, the audio system being used at Vivid Sydney, one of the world’s largest light and music festivals.
Users only need to download the Cinewav app using Android or IOS operating systems, select where they want to see fireworks, and follow the instructions on the app to listen for free, hearing the vivid sound of the fireworks as if they were sitting in the grandstand.
Dr. Nuno F. Ribeiro, senior vice president of Tourism and Hospitality Management at RMIT University Vietnam, said, “Most tourists are not looking for a trip but an experience. The richer that experience, the more quality it brings, so they want to come back to discover more.”
With Danang an attractive destination this summer, there will be countless new experiences for visitors to the city.
Nguyen Van Binh, chairman of Sun Group in the central region, said that more than 80 per cent of tickets for the fireworks event had been sold. Tickets for the opening night were sold out in just a few days, showing the great attraction of the DIFF after a three-year suspension.
Thanks to the return of the DIFF, a series of service businesses, restaurants, hotels, and yachts on both sides of the Han River have become popular, actively launching innovative packages to accompany the fireworks theme.
The explosive opening night heralds a sign of prosperity for the DIFF and Danang’s tourism.
Ngo Thi Kim Yen, Vice Chairwoman of Danang People’s Committee, said that the return of the festival signalled a great effort by the city, and that the companionship of Sun Group played an important role in helping Danang to expedite the DIFF.
According to Yen, the festival is expected to be a push to help Danang tourism resume growth and reach pre-pandemic levels.
With the support of businesses, Danang is set to organise 28 companion events over the month of the fireworks festival and is expected to welcome more than 1.5 million visitors in total.
As the focal event of Enjoy Danang 2023, and part of the WOW Danang programmes initiated by developer Sun Group, the DIFF 2023 and many other events will be taking place at Sun World Ba Na Hills and Asia Park throughout the summer.
