Nestlé Vietnam forging commitment for a healthier environment

This is one of the series of activities organised throughout the environmental action month that the company has been actively engaged in.

Responding to the movement, Nestlé Vietnam has come up with a raft of concrete activities, particularly the signing of undertakings with noble goals, such as recycling and reusing 100 per cent of product packaging by 2025; 100 per cent of waste being collected and classified right at the factory gates; 100 per cent of its factories not burying solid waste in the environment; or proactively responding to and launching the movement on collecting single-use plastics and non-biodegradable bags at the company site.

In a message calling on the whole society to join the national plastic waste reduction campaign launched by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc lauded the practical models, initiatives, and actions to tackle the issues associated with plastic waste reduction, and waste recycling and reusethat came from organisations and businesses, and conferred the certificate recognising Nestlé Vietnam as a member of the Anti-Plastic Waste Alliance.

In conjunction with the movement, early this month Nestlé Vietnam accompanied and teamed up with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment in the southern provinces of Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau to grow plants for the environment, and took part in Waste Recycling day in the framework of the “For greener Dong Nai Week”. Besides, the company’s 300 volunteers joined efforts with the Phuoc Hai Town People’s Committee (Dat Do district) to secure hygiene and work on waste classification on the seaside.

Particularly on June 8, Nestlé Vietnam volunteers and the Phuoc Hai Town People’s Committee engaged in clearing waste at seaside areas, collecting nearly 1.1 tonnes of waste of diverse kinds that were later transported to local dumping sites before ending at the central waste treatment complex.

Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Deputy Chairwoman of the Phuoc Hai Town People’s Committee, appreciated Nestlé Vietnam’s efforts in cleaning the living environment, reducing plastic waste, and raising local community’s awareness in this regard.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung joins a ceremony on environmental protection in Bac Lieu province on the World Environment Day

Earlier, on June 1, the company teamed up with MoNRE to host a raft of activities to raise general awareness and donated 140 dust bins to people and schools in Vinh Trach Dong commune, Bac Lieu city in Bac Lieu province on the occasion of the World Environment Day under the witness of Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and the provincial leaders.

To realise this commitment, Nestlé Vietnam has been proactive in raising awareness about environmental protection and the anti-plastic movement through on-site waste classification efforts for local residents, particularly school children.

In December 2018, Nestlé Vietnam accompanied mGreen, a social enterprise, to come up with the initiative “Garbage classification and recycling” at residential buildings and schools at Vinhomes Central Park new urban area in Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Thanh district with a view to raising awareness and changing behaviour to contribute to protecting the environment and the planet.

After five months of implementation, the project has posted initial upbeat results and succeeded in collecting and classifying nearly 2.2 tonnes of garbage and sent it on to Saigon Urban Environment Co., Ltd. for proper treatment.

Part of Swiss-based Nestlé Group, Nestlé Vietnam commits to improving the quality of life and is striving for a healthier future of Vietnamese people with a series of activities imbued with sustainable development footprints, leading a healthy life with local consumers for nearly 25 years since its foundation.

Last year, the group set forth the target of recycling and reusing 100 per cent of its product packaging by 2025. Working towards this goal, all Nestlé Vietnam factories have reached the target of no solid waste being discharged to the environment.
