According to MobiFone, 5G rollout is one of the top priorities in its development strategy, with the goal of transforming from a traditional telecommunications service provider to a leading technology corporation in Vietnam.
MobiFone has already conducted 5G testing across the country to compile a database for the network operator to evaluate and develop future network expansion plans.
With the C3 band block, MobiFone will focus on enhancing services in big cities, airports, tourist destinations, and industrial parks. To enhance the effectiveness of 5G deployment, MobiFone will deploy an infrastructure sharing cooperation model with network operators which have suitable 5G frequency bands. This cooperation will help optimise the resources of network operators and give customers the best experiences.
By 2030, MobiFone aims to develop a 5G network to ensure its position as a leading enterprise in the Vietnamese market. It will also research and develop Make-in-MobiFone products in the fields of AI/ML, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, Blockchain, and others.
Earlier, Viettel won the right to use the 2500-2600MHz frequency. Meanwhile, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) won the auction for the C2 band block (3700-3800 MHz) for 5G.
Currently, the world's 5G frequency bands are divided into four groups, including: low-band (below 1000 MHz), mid-range band 1 (1000-2600 MHz) and mid-range 2 (3500-7000 MHz), and the high-frequency band (24000-48000MHz). All frequency bands have different advantages and disadvantages for network operators in the process of organising investment in 5G technical systems and optimising costs. Normally, the lower the frequency and investment costs, the better the network operator will be able to provide services at more attractive prices to customers.
