After three days of intense competition, Indian golfer Rahil Gangjee emerged as the champion at the 2024 BRG Open Golf Championship in Danang.

The race for the title began on August 29 on the par-73 course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, with the awards ceremony taking place on August 31.

The winner was awarded $17,500 from the total prize fund of $100,000, along with a trophy crafted from Chu Dau ceramic (from Hai Duong province), which boasts a 600-year history of craftsmanship.

Before entering the final round, Rahil Gangjee scored -7, trailing by three strokes behind the leader, Aidric Jose Chan.

However, Gangjee delivered an impressive performance on the final day, finishing with a round of 70 (-3) that included five birdies and three bogeys.

Gangjee scored three birdies on the last four holes, bringing his total score to -10, tying with Jose Chan in the group behind him.

As Jose Chan approached the 18th hole, he needed only to maintain par to force a playoff. However, he made a critical mistake, scoring a bogey and ending with a total score of -9. As a result, Rahil Gangjee was crowned champion.

This year’s tournament featured 19 Vietnamese golfers, with four successfully cutting, including Nguyễn Tuan Anh, Truong Chi Quan, Nguyen Huu Quyet, and Doan Uy. Among them, Nguyen Tuan Anh’s commendable 11th place finish on the leaderboard and the Best Amateur title showcased the Vietnam's promising golf talent and hope for the future of the sport here.

The 2024 BRG Open Golf Championship in Danang is part of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) and brought together the most elite players on the ADT Order of Merit, ensuring high competition and excitement.

The championship’s success was made possible by the dedication of all parties involved, as well as the determination and professionalism of both domestic and international golfers.

This is the third consecutive year of the Open Golf Championship in Danang, further solidifying the city's reputation as 'Asia’s Leading Event and Festival Destination'.

It has also significantly contributed to the city’s evolution as a premier golf tourism destination, supporting its development strategy for high-quality tourism.

Madame Nguyen Thi Nga, chairwoman of BRG Group, revealed the success of hosting the BRG Open Golf Championship over the past three years, with each year being more and more successful than the previous one, thanks to the participation of top regional and local golfers.

"This contributes to making golf tourism a spearhead of the smoke-free economy and maintaining Vietnam's position as the world’s premier golf destination in the years to come," said Nga.
