Highly anticipated Gen AI conference set to take place in Vietnam

Generative AI is creating breakthroughs in many fields, from healthcare and education to society in general. As a result, Vietnam has decided to delve deeper into this new era of AI to boost economic growth and address societal issues.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the New Turing Institute (NTI), the Rethink Healthcare Foundation (RHF), Fulbright University, and the National Innovation Centre (NIC) are co-hosting the 2024 GenAI Summit in Ho Chi Minh City on August 18. The conference promises to showcase the latest advancements in Generative AI technology.

"This conference reflects NIC’s strong commitment to promoting the AI ecosystem in Vietnam, supporting startups to seize opportunities in the AI era. The event promises to be a groundbreaking scientific and technological innovation conference, focusing on significant advancements in GenAI," said Vu Quoc Huy, director of NIC

Vietnam is collaborating with major global technology corporations, particularly from the United States, such as NVIDIA, Google, and Meta, to develop its innovation ecosystem, especially in strategic and potential sectors like AI and semiconductors.

This is the first time the GenAI Summit will be held in Vietnam, signalling the trust being shown in the country’s innovation ecosystem and its potential to become a regional technology hub.

Luong Minh Thang, co-founder of Google Deepmind, said, "This is the most anticipated GenAI conference to date, and I am thrilled it will take place in Vietnam. Technology enthusiasts should not miss this opportunity."

The conference will focus on three main themes, including 'Foundation Models of GenAI', 'Practical Applications of GenAI', and 'Opportunities for Vietnam'.

In the 'Foundation Models of GenAI' session, industry experts will delve into advanced technologies driving the development of Large Language Models. The 'Practical Applications of GenAI' session will see business leaders discuss the transformative potential and applications of GenAI, highlighting its role as a global technology trend and a new economic growth driver for Vietnam. The 'Opportunities for Vietnam' panel will feature investors and AI business leaders sharing their perspectives on the opportunities and challenges Vietnam faces to become a major AI hub in the region.

The presence of Jeff Dean, Google’s chief scientist and co-founder of Google Brain, Google Translate, Gemini, and many products that have helped Google dominate the global tech industry, will bring invaluable insights and profound perspectives on the future of AI.

Wendy Nguyen, president of RHF, said, "I am looking forward to bringing Jeff Dean and other world-renowned scientists to Vietnam. This moment will greatly contribute to the nurturing of young talent in Vietnam, not just in AI but also in thinking, problem-solving, leadership skills, and create relentless enthusiasm for creating and innovating for humanity."

The conference is expected to attract over 1,000 attendees, including experts shaping the future of AI. Other notable participants include Le Viet Quoc, Google distinguished researcher, Vu Duy Thuc, founder and CEO of OhmniLabs, Van Dinh Hong Vu, CEO of Elsa Speak, Nguyen Thuy Anh, CEO of RHF, Po-Shen Loh, professor of Mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University, Diyi Yang, recipient of the 2024 Sloan Research Fellowship, Yi Tay, chief scientist at Reka AI, and Steven Truong Quoc Hung, CEO of VinBrain.

In addition to providing academic content and showcasing the latest technology trends, the conference will serve as a bridge to connect businesses, investment funds, with the AI research and application community, offering diverse perspectives and displaying exemplary AI products from Vietnamese startups.

GenAI Summit is an annual event organised by NTI since 2018 to create a platform aimed at nurturing and inspiring the next generation of AI talent in Southeast Asia and beyond.

After many successful years, the summit has become a significant and eagerly anticipated scientific and technological event in Southeast Asia. The resounding success of last year's event, with over 3,600 participants, both in-person and online, featuring more than 100 companies and multinational corporations, and renowned speakers like Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Christopher Manning, director of the Stanford AI Laboratory, proved the undeniable appeal of the summit.
