Jeff Dean

Jeff Dean's distinguished career at Google began in 1999. He has contributed significantly to advancing deep learning techniques, laying the foundation for many modern AI applications, including natural language processing and image recognition. His leadership and technical skills have played a key role in enhancing Google's reputation in AI research.

Under Dean's leadership, Google DeepMind has made notable progress in Generative AI, focusing on creating new content from existing data. His team’s work on transformer models has significantly improved natural language processing, allowing AI to generate coherent and contextually relevant text. These advancements have practical applications across various fields, from automated customer support to real-time language translation.

At GenAI Summit 24, participants will have the chance to explore the latest innovations in Generative AI and discuss how these technologies may reshape industries, stimulate creativity, and promote economic growth. Dean’s involvement is expected to provide useful insights into the potential and future directions of these developments.

Dean’s contributions extend beyond technological advancements to embrace ethical considerations in AI development. As highlighted in recent discussions, including insights from a Fortune article, Dean emphasises the importance of continued algorithmic improvements. These advancements aim to enhance AI efficiency and reduce environmental impacts, specifically regarding the energy consumption of AI systems.

"AI has the potential to transform industries and improve lives, but it is essential that we develop it responsibly and ethically," Dean said.

He believes that while AI contributes to data centre emissions, it is not the primary cause. He advocates for innovations that enhance the energy efficiency of AI models, aligning technology progress with sustainability goals. This perspective is likely to foster meaningful discussions at the summit regarding responsible advancements in technology.

In the context of Vietnam, there is a significant opportunity to leverage AI to foster economic growth and address social challenges. The GenAI Summit 2024, being the first conference focused on Generative AI in Vietnam, will help the Southeast Asian nation delve deeper into a new era of AI.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, GenAI Summit 2024 is being co-organised by the New Turing Institute (NTI), the Rethink Healthcare Foundation (RHF), and Fulbright University, and coordinated by the National Innovation Centre (NIC). It will take place on August 18 in Ho Chi Minh City. The conference aims to present the latest advancements in Generative AI technology.
