Dak Nong may own a Global Geopark

Dak Nong Geopark features a stunning volcanic cave system

This is a great opportunity to promote rare local tourism products so that Dak Nong province has approved the construction of tourist routes in Dak Nong Geological Park, connecting with tourism companies.

The Management Board of Dak Nong Geological Park has just informed that the Global Geoparks Network has officially announced the content of meeting the Geological Science Program and the geological park (IGGP) standards. At this meeting, the UNESCO officially approved Dak Nong Geopark as a Global Geopark.

However, this is the first step of approval and from now to April 2020, UNESCO experts will survey the Dak Nong Geopark in terms of tourism operation and then make an official decision. Therefore, Dak Nong Geopark must scale up efforts towards achieving the noble title of "Global Geopark".

Located along the Krong No River, Dak Nong Geopark stretches over six districts and towns: Dak Glong, Dak Song, Krong No, Dak Mil, GiaNghia, and Cu Jut towns, with a stunning volcanic cave system.

The most impressive point is the Krong No volcanic cave which is famous in Southeast Asia for its length, scale, originality, and certified by the Japanese volcanic cave association. The remaining caves are a mystery as many scientists continue to explore biodiversity, mineral complexes, archaeological formation, and sites.

With its uniqueness, Dak Nong geological park is expected to become a leading tourism product, helping to promote tourism development in the province.

Therefore, the province has organised many marketing activities to connect travel companies and Dak Nong Geological Park.

Recently, Dak Nong has been working with big travel companies such as: Sagotour, Long An Tourist, Ben Thanh Tourist, Saigontourist, Hoabinhtourist, and Royal Group on tailoring tourism products at DakNong Geological Park.

Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of Dak Nong People's Committee said that the province will continue to build, develop, and exploit its potentials, forming three tourism routes in Dak Nong Geological Park while focusing on conserving and maximising the advantages of the natural landscape, the value of geological heritage sites, outstanding cultural heritages, and biodiversity.

Dak Nong province will co-ordinate with tourism businesses, as well as connecting tours and tourism routes in the Geological Park to turn Dak Nong into an attractive tourist destination in the near future.

In the first nine months of 2019, total tourist arrivals to Dak Nong province reached 303,500, up 29.4 per cent, with 6,300 foreign tourists.

With the unique wonders of the Geopark, Dak Nong province believes that it will become a unique tourism product, promoting the province’s tourism development to a new high.
