About 50 farmers took the factory tour to learn about coffee processing technologies. They also had the chance to taste diverse coffee products as well as speak with the staff at the cutting-edge coffee processing plant.

Pham Phu Ngoc, manager of NESCAFÉ Plan in Vietnam, a global initiative of Nestlé Group that supports coffee farmers practising regenerative agriculture, said, "This is the first time in 13 years we have organised a factory tour for farmers in the NESCAFÉ Plan initiative and represents an opportunity for us to express our gratitude. Thanks to their dedication and contribution, the NESCAFÉ Plan has achieved success in contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s coffee industry."

The tour helped farmers better understand the journey of Vietnamese coffee beans from raw materials to processing, to becoming a high-quality product and exported to 30 markets around the world, including the EU, Japan, South Korea, and the United States.

The event underscores Nestlé's commitment to supporting farmers as they shift towards a sustainable farming model, improve their livelihoods, and enhance the value of Vietnamese coffee beans.

"We hope that after the tour, farmers will be proud to continue spreading positive messages about green agriculture, reinforcing Vietnam's position as a high-quality coffee producer and exporter," said Ngoc.

Having participated in the NESCAFÉ Plan since 2015, Mai Thi Nhung, one of the farmers on the factory tour, said, "This is the first time I have visited a modern coffee processing factory. I am very proud to see the coffee beans we cultivate have been processed into high-quality products and exported around the world. As a group leader of the NESCAFÉ Plan, I will share this story with the other members so that they can also understand their roles in providing high-quality coffee beans thanks to the application of sustainable farming practices guided by Nestlé's agronomists."

As a global initiative of Nestlé Group, the NESCAFÉ Plan has been implemented by Nestlé Vietnam in the Central Highlands provinces since 2011 in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Central Highlands Institute of Agriculture and Forestry Science and Technology, and the provincial agricultural extension centres

The initiative has conducted more than 355,000 training sessions on sustainable coffee farming for farmer households and supported seedlings for an average of over 21,000 farming households each year in the period 2011-23. It also distributed more than 74 million high-yield, pest- and drought-resistant seedlings to replant 74,000 hectares of old coffee areas.

By applying regenerative agriculture coffee farming methods, the scheme has helped farmers save up to 40 per cent of irrigation water, reduce chemical fertilisers and pesticides by 20 per cent, and increase income by 30-100 per cent.

It has also formed 274 farmer groups, of which more than 30 per cent have female farmers as group leaders, helping them receive formal professional training and then continue to impart knowledge and inspiring the farming community to practice sustainable agricultural production.

In May, Nestlé released its second Nescafé Plan 2030 Progress Report. The report shows the increased adoption of regenerative agriculture practices, contributing to improved farm yield, and reduced greenhouse-gas emissions. It also reflects Nestlé's efforts to promote multi-stakeholder collaboration towards sustainable development of the coffee industry, improving farmers' livelihoods, and shaping a green, low-emission agricultural future.
