On July 17, representatives of ALBA, a globally renowned environmental service provider for top-quality recycling and smart waste management solutions, and VietCycle, a plastic waste collection network with recycling experience in northern Vietnam, donated 15 bicycles to plastic waste collection network members.

At the donation ceremony, a representative of Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment welcomed the initiatives that support the collection and recycling community, contributing to the joint waste management efforts of Hanoi and other northern localities.

ALBA Group Asia and VietCycle present bicycles to plastic waste collection network

Axel Schweitzer, chairman of ALBA Group Asia, and Hoang Duc Vuong, chairman of VietCycle JSC, appreciated the indispensable role of those engaged in the collection and sorting of waste, highlighting them as the unsung heroes of environmental protection, contributing to the common vision of a world without waste.

The two partners are committed to promoting gender equality and social inclusion in the collection system, and the entire plastic recycling industry in general.

The bicycle donation ceremony marked the first step on the path between ALBA, VietCycle, recycling collection partners, and local authorities.

“Each member is part of the network, and regardless of their gender, they are namelessly contributing to environmental protection in Vietnam. We are all connecting here to build a better life for ourselves and the community,” said chairman Vuong.

Excited by the recognition and the future development plans, Vu Thi Nguyet, a core member of the network in Bac Ninh said, "In the past, whether it was a good or a bad day, I had to manage on my own. I encouraged myself that I was doing good for the environment, and this belief kept me going."

"However, I am so glad to now see a community of people who care about us and give us presents. We believe that our profession has a better future, and undoubtedly, our lives will be less difficult," she added.

ALBA and VietCycle are not only developing a food-grade PET/HDPE plastic recycling plant with an annual capacity of 48,000 tonnes, they are also planning to build a sustainable collection system to contribute more value to the community and the environment.

The development of a local partner network creates an alliance to generate solutions for the increasing amount of plastic waste in Vietnam.

The bicycle donation ceremony marked the first step on the path between ALBA, VietCycle, recycling collection partners, and local authorities. The ceremony was held under the personal sponsorship of Dr. Schweitzer and a contribution from VietCycle.
