AES-VCM Mong Duong Power on August 22 presented 150 scholarships to children from low-income families in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The children are from five wards and communes of Cam Pha city including Mong Duong, Cam Hai, Cong Hoa, Cua Ong and Duong Huy. The money is provided through the scholarship programme of the Quang Ninh Fund for Children.

This VND180 million ($7,964) education programme, including 150 scholarships worth VND1.2 million ($53) per one is part of the company’s CSR initiatives focusing on education, healthcare, livelihood restoration and environment protection for the local communities of Mong Duong 2 Power Plant.

Since its establishment, the company has invested VND8 billion ($353,982) on community development programs that provide positive impacts to every school, clinic as well as overall infrastructure of the area.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Pham Hung Cu, representative of the Quang Ninh Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Pham Ngoc Lu, representative of the Cam Pha People Committee, Nguyen Phuc Phong, director of the Quang Ninh Fund for Children, Kevin Pierce, plant manager of Mong Duong 2 BOT Power Plant, leaders of communes, scholarship recipients, their teachers and parents.

Addressing at the ceremony, Pierce said: “We are committed to improve the education environment since this is one of the important factors to improve the living standards and ensure sustainable development of the community. We are very pleased to partner again with the Quang Ninh Fund for Children to implement this important mission for the second year.”

The scholarship aims at motivating children to advance their study and help their parent to cover part of the educational costs. The company expects this support would encourage children to continue their education accumulating knowledge that will benefit their future.
