According to Skyscanner’s latest report on India’s travel landscape, Danang tops the list of the 10 most sought-after destinations for Indian tourists. Hotels, flights, and car rentals in Danang by Indians rose by over 1,000 per cent compared to last year.

Truong Thi Hong Hanh, director of the city’s Department of Tourism, said that Danang is an attractive new destination for Indian tourists with strengths in beach resort tourism, world-famous hotel brands, unique theme parks, night entertainment and rich culinary culture.

“The growth of Indian travellers to Danang in the first three quarters of 2023 demonstrates the attraction of the destination to the world’s second most populous market. In the first quarter of this year, more than 95,000 Indian tourists arrived in Danang, accounting for nearly half of the total number of Indian visitors to Vietnam,” Hanh said.

Danang is surrounded by three world cultural heritage sites that have been recognised by UNESCO: the old imperial city of Hue, the ancient town of Hoi An, and My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam province.

In October 2022, Danang People’s Committee issued Decision No.2726 on the city’s tourism development to 2030 and beyond. The goal is that by 2030, the coastal city will become a high-quality tourism and service centre, and a creative destination for Vietnam and wider Southeast Asia.

According to the city plan for the decade, approved earlier this month, tourism is targeted to become a key economic sector. It also wants to become a centre of high-quality tourism, including building high-class, green, smart, organised marine and ecological resorts. It also would like to be a key site for international conferences and festivals and aims to develop more high-end and ultra-luxury tourism.

To realise this goal, the city is developing high-end beach and resort tourism products, associated with resort real estate, as well urban tourism products for shopping, entertainment and the meetings industry.

The city is accelerating the implementation of key tourism projects, developing new tourism products and high-end service areas like Ba Na Hills, Hoa Phong-Hoa Phu golf course, Mikazuki Resorts and Spa, Nam O ecotourism area, and many others.

In the long term, the city plans to pull in investment to form an isolated eco-resort for high-paying and super-luxury guests at Hon Son Tra (Hon Chao). Danang also has plans to invest in building a complex of financial, commercial, entertainment, casino, and high-class apartment complexes on Vo Van Kiet street in the central business district of An Don.

Danang currently manages and operates three golf courses: Ba Na Hills Golf Club, BRG Danang Golf Resort, and BRG Golf Club, exploiting golf tourism through several events such as the FantastiCity Open. The city has plans to add four new golf courses.

Meetings industry tourism is also supported by the city to become a unique product segment, attracting high-end tourists with investment to upgrade the City Exhibition Centre to become a national and international convention and exhibition centre, focusing on hotels, entertainment, shopping, and restaurants.

By 2030, another smart international convention and exhibition centre with a capacity equivalent to Asia’s meetings industry tourism destinations may be opened for investment in the Hoa Vang area.
