Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam donated $81,800 to Saigon Children's Charity to protect the most disadvantaged and vulnerable from COVID-19

Specifically, the UK-backed bank has donated $85,200 to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases to purchase critical medical equipment and $81,800 to the non-profit organisation Saigon Children’s Charity to support disadvantaged children and young adults.

Additionally, $33,000 was given to the non-profit organisation Aide et Action to support ethnic minority children. The bank also donated 70,000 surgical masks to two hospitals, Duc Giang General Hospital and Cho Ray Hospital, to support frontline workers and patients.

In April, the bank initiated the fundraising “Work from Home Workout Challenge”, which contributed VND450 million ($19,570) to the total donations. With each participation drawing a donation of VND100,000 ($4.3) from the bank, the challenge drew 4,500 participations from its staff, clients, and the community, enabling thousands of people to stay mentally and physically healthy.

Along with these donations, Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam also ran a meaningful internal fundraising campaign entitled “Give One Day to fight COVID-19”, in which its employees could donate any amount (an hour, a week, or any preferred amount) directly from their salary to Standard Chartered PLC’s $50 million COVID-19 Global Charitable Fund. The money will be used to provide short-term relief and longer-term assistance for communities across the group’s 59 markets, including Vietnam.

Besides community support, the bank is actively lending a helping hand to its clients.

“Supporting the communities has always been a core focus of our brand promise 'Here for Good', especially during challenging times like these. We hope that the donations will offer meaningful assistance to the fight against COVID-19 in Vietnam and help the communities recover from the impact of the pandemic,” said Nirukt Sapru, CEO Vietnam and ASEAN and South Asia Cluster Markets at Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam.

“As the Best International Bank in Vietnam, we are committed to supporting our clients, partners, and the communities during this difficult period,” Sapru noted.

Besides community support, the bank is actively lending a helping hand to its clients.

It has identified a number of Vietnamese businesses to benefit from the group’s $1 billion of financing for companies that provide goods and services to help the fight against COVID-19.

The bank has also implemented a set of relief measures to support its corporate banking and retail banking clients to alleviate financial burden such as exemption or reduction of interest rates, provision of credit facilities to serve production and business activities, and moratorium on loan repayment.
