Hundreds of employees, from the board of directors to employees from the seven different companies under the Panasonic Vietnam Group umbrella, and their families gathered at Hoan Kiem Lake in the early morning of October 21, full of enthusiasm to participate in the Mottainai Run.

Along with thousands of local people, participants completed the 1.7km running route and raised nearly VND50 million (almost $2,000) for a charitable fund to support orphans and disabled children. Two runners from Panasonic System Networks Vietnam finished second and third in the women's race.

Hoang Thi Lan, who won third prize, said, "I started running every day since participating in the company's internal running competition, so I was very excited to sign up for this event with my colleagues."

Oka Hiroyuki, director of Panasonic Vietnam, said, "Panasonic Vietnam was established in 1971 and is looking forward to the next 50 years here to contribute meaningfully to people’s lives and the sustainable development of Vietnamese society."

"We have dedicated ourselves to sponsoring the Mottainai event for many years, to spread the spirit of our immersive Japanese culture, and help raise funds to support deprived children. This even has also been a valuable opportunity to bring together representatives from across Panasonic Vietnam, nurture pride in our organisation, and strengthen the connection between all our members," he added.

This is the fourth time Panasonic has been sponsor of this event, and it is one of the Japanese brand's corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities to meet its commitment in this area.

Last April, nearly 100 Panasonic employees from across Vietnam joined with local authorities and people to plant 13,500 trees in Xuan Lien Nature Reserve and the neighbouring Thanh Hoa province, along with various activities for local communities such as 'eco-learning' classes for schools and sustainable tourism workshops for local businesses.

The Mottainai Run is the main activity and the curtain raiser for the 10th Mottainai programme, organised by Vietnam Women Newspaper, and co-organised by the Vietnam Women's Union, the Japanese Embassy, and the National Traffic Safety Committee. Sponsorship comes from several Vietnamese and Japanese corporations, hoping to promote a green lifestyle, environmental protection, and raise funds for the underprivileged.

The scheme is also part of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.

In addition to the run, various activities open to the public, such as marketplaces, auctions, and fundraisers, attracted the participation of thousands of interested visitors over the weekend.

With a commitment to the sustainable development of Vietnam through its business and CSR activities, Panasonic is focusing its efforts on education and the environment. Some programmes highlights include:

• Panasonic Sustainable School: This brand-new CSR initiative builds on the experience and success of Panasonic Risupia Vietnam (2010 – 2021).

• Kid Witness News (KWN): A free filmmaking competition for 10 to 18-year-old students with over 3,000 participants since 2006.

• The donation and planting of more than 610,000 trees across 20 provinces and cities in Vietnam through two key initiatives, including EcoRelay - Panasonic, an annual tree planting event since 2014, and Live Wellness Contribute Green, a special tree planting scheme with eager contributions from Panasonic's partners and customers since 2022.
