Japan's BBIX ties up with CMC Telecom to launch two new internet exchange points in Vietnam

CMC Telecom operates data centres in Vietnam, taking advantage of their network infrastructure and local expertise to support global service providers expanding their business in the region.

With BBIX’s experience in providing IX services globally, BBIX and CMC Telecom will leverage their strong partnership to provide a wider range of options and highly reliable IX services at two key locations: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

This will enable content providers and Internet service providers in Vietnam and beyond to easily access BBIX’s carrier-neutral, cost-effective, and low-latency IX services.

As Vietnam’s economy grows, internet usage continues to expand. With increasing digitalisation, the demand for fast and stable internet connectivity is rising, along with the need for more diverse connection options.

Dang Tung Son, senior vice president and chief strategy officer of CMC Corporation said, "Vietnam has a significant opportunity to become a regional data hub, and this partnership is a crucial step towards that vision."

"The collaboration between CMC Telecom and BBIX introduces an advanced connectivity solution and drives the growth of Vietnam’s Internet ecosystem and its expansion across Southeast Asia. We believe that this alliance will empower customers to deploy their services on an optimised, stable, and highly reliable network like never before."

Hideyuki Sasaki, president and CEO of BBIX, Inc. said, "We are excited to announce the launch of the IX Point in Vietnam. At BBIX we are committed to leveraging the expertise and global knowledge from IX in Japan and beyond."

"Our goal is to provide high-quality IX services in Vietnam, enhance network stability, and optimise internet traffic in Vietnam. We are also looking forward to collaborating with Vietnamese operators to speed development in the Vietnam ecosystem."

Fast, reliable connectivity is vital for Vietnam's digital economy to grow. According to the e-Conomy SEA 2024 report released by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company in November, Vietnam's digital economy is continuing to show solid double-digit growth, reaching $36 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) in 2024.

Vietnam's e-commerce market is estimated to reach $22 billion GMV in 2024, an increase of 18 per cent on-year.
