Speaking at the handover ceremony, Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Vietnamese government and people of Vietnam came forward to assist India when India was going through a severe COVID-19 crisis between April and June 2021.

Now, the crisis has affected Vietnam, particularly the large industrial provinces including Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai province and Binh Duong province. With the COVID-19 crisis affecting the whole world for the most part of this year and last year, India understands well that cooperation among the countries is the only way forward to stem this pandemic.

Yesterday, the Indian navy ship Airavat called at Nha Rong Port of Ho Chi Minh City with 300 oxygen concentrators and 100 MT of LMO in five containers of 20MT capacity each as assistance from India.

Tran Phuoc Anh, director general of the Department of External Relations in Ho Chi Minh City said that given the surge in COVID-19 cases since April in southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, the guarantee of oxygen supply for the treatment of COVID-19 patients has been critical. Thus, the emergency donation of 100MT of LMO and 300 oxygen concentrators from India would certainly help Vietnam save more lives.

"On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I would like to thank Madan Sethi, Consul General of India, for his dedication and hard work. My appreciation to Cho Ray Hospital, Sovigaz, Saigon Port, and Ho Chi Minh City Customs for the swift and safe delivery of the huge oxygen tanks and the oxygen concentrators," he added.

The medial items would be received by Cho Ray Hospital, the consignee on behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, to assist the fight against the ongoing pandemic in Vietnam.

Over the past months, the Indian community and businesses in Vietnam have lent a helping hand, both in cash and in kind, to support Vietnamese patients such as the most recent ECMO donation. These meaningful deeds, together with the emergency aid by the Indian government today, have grown the ties between Vietnam and India even stronger.

Recently, the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City has offered various training courses to train 200 doctors and nurses in Ho Chi Minh City and around 300 doctors and nurses in other provinces in southern Vietnam.
