HCMCity, Ha Noi police smash gambling rings

The HCM City police yesterday smashed a huge online betting ring which allegedly took more than VND1 trillion or US$470 million in bets on football matches.
The gang used the M88.com website to accept bets from gamblers who were required to deposit their money in a banker account abroad.

The case is a complicated one as the bets were transferred via different accounts run by foreigners.

The police have arrested ten people, including those believed to be the ringleaders of the gang.

On the same day, the Ha Noi police arrested nine members of a big online football gambling ring in the middle of the ongoing World Cup season.

The ring, which was allegedly accepting up to VND8.1 billion in bets on the Euro Championships and the World Cup matches, was led by Pham Quoc Tuan, 45, a resident of Thanh Xuan district, Ha Noi.

The police found that the bets were initially taken via the account Tva7gd06 on the website  www.bong88.com in early June, and then via accounts Tva7gd06sub01 andTva7gd06sub02 and other sub-accounts.

In another raid, the Ha Noi police seized three gamblers of another online betting ring involving football. The case is under further investigation.
