Mieko Miyazaki, a koto (Japanese zither) player, will form a new trio with two Vietnamese artists at the event

The opening ceremony will feature Pham Tran Viet Nam's seventh solo exhibition on May 10. Themed “Circle of Life and Death”, the exhibition will include 22 artworks carefully curated by art researcher Ngo Kim Khoi. “Circle of Life and Death” is a metaphysical watchtower, where the artist becomes a witness to the haunting shapes and fragments emerging from void and sediment. “Looking at sentient beings”, “In whose name”, “Babel,” and “Lair”. Pham Tran Viet Nam’s paintings are deeply imbued with existential concerns: wandering souls, unnamed memories, and unhealed wounds appear through overlapping collages and haunting faces, like a soul-searching journey.

“I painted this series like a sleepwalker. In that state, emotions and energy flowed naturally. Painting was like interpreting the spirit and language of another existence. Slowly, through continuous work, I began to understand more deeply the spirit and language of the images I painted. I naturally sympathised and merged with that other existence," Nam said.

On May 11, music lovers will participate in a meeting called "Qua cau gio bay" by Huong Thanh, Nguyen Le, and Mieko Miyazaki, in the intersection between traditional Vietnamese music and jazz, as well as different cultural spaces.

Singer/artist Huong Thanh is an icon of Vietnamese folk music. In 2007, she won the Prix Musiques du Monde (World Music Award) from the French radio station France Musique. She has made her mark through many successful musical productions and collaborations with international artists. Huong Thanh's voice will take the audience into a non-linear space-time, where seemingly familiar folk melodies are recreated in a new and enchanting way.

Nguyen Le, a famous musician and guitarist in the French jazz scene, has accompanied Huong Thanh on many albums and music performances. It is no exaggeration to say that they are the pioneering Vietnamese artists in world music with Vietnamese folk songs. Nguyen Le is the one who breathes modern jazz into those melodies to create unique tones.

Mieko Miyazaki, a koto (Japanese zither) player, will form a new trio with two Vietnamese artists. She is the ambassador of traditional Japanese music in the heart of Europe, teaching koto in France as well as participating in programmes on the French channels TF1 and France 2. She has collaborated with Nguyen Le on the jazz-inspired album “Saiyuki”. She also recorded and released a remarkable transcription of Bach's 'Goldberg's Variations' for solo koto.

With a unique combination of art exhibition and music performances, the Chay Concept event will leave visitors with deep emotions about a multicoloured and multi-level art picture.
