The Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) on September 30 signed an MoU with domestic and foreign partners to strengthen sci-tech research activities.

Addressing the signing held at Hoa Lac High-tech Park, Dr. Kum Dongwha, president of VKIST, said, “The institute will focus its resources on biotechnology in the coming time, with the collaboration with CVI Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical JSC and give priority to the development of natural pharmaceutical and cosmetics product lines.”

Accordingly, VKIST and CVI Pharma will work together on the research and development (R&D) of products from natural herbs in Vietnam to serve life and healthcare.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phuong Thien Thuong, head of the VKIST’s Biotechnology Department, said “We have had a lot of opportunities to work with CVI Pharma, and know that this pharmaceutical company is a pioneer of the green value chain and the application of new technologies and knowledge, as well as the combination of modern and traditional medicine to produce and develop healthcare products from natural herbs.”

“We chose to cooperate with CVI with the expectation of producing high-quality natural pharmaceutical and cosmetics products to serve community health,” he added.

After nearly two years of preparation, collaborative research themes between CVI Pharma and VKIST will be appraised, checked, and approved and applied in production to serve people’s life.

Making the first step in the local pharmaceutical market in 2013, CVI Pharma has then made an important step when it successfully received the transfer of extraction technology of Nano Curcumin from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, opening an era of applying medical technology in the field of healthcare.

The high-tech factory of CVI Pharma

In 2017, CVI Pharma became the first Vietnamese pharmaceutical company to get a license to build a factory in Hoa Lac High-tech Park. In 2020, the high-tech facility was put into operation. Costing about VND300 billion ($13 million) and covering 1.1 hectares, the factory is equipped with advanced equipment and production assembly meeting standards of GMP, CGMP, GMP-WHO, ISO 13485:2016 for the production of cosmetics, functional food, traditional medicines, and medical equipment and medical supplies of Category A.

CVI Pharma has also planned to establish CVI Core Tech Lab to increase R&D activities in the coming time.
