Under the MoU, CIP will launch a collaboration with PetroVietnam on renewable energy and offshore wind - and commit to exchanging knowledge and information on the energy transition from fossil-based to renewable energy production and consumption. The collaboration covers technology, supply chain, logistics, infrastructure, and skills, among others.
Furthermore, the two companies will explore opportunities to collaborate on developing specific offshore wind projects in Vietnam.
The agreement holds great promise for the future of offshore wind in Vietnam, as the two sides work together to accelerate the energy transition and achieve Vietnam’s national net emission reduction goal.
Robert Helms, partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners said, “We look very much forward to the collaboration with PetroVietnam and consider the MoU another important milestone for our presence in Vietnam. CIP is a pioneer in offshore wind, and we look forward to sharing our knowledge, know-how and technological innovations to deliver Vietnam’s first offshore wind projects in a close collaboration of the parties and drive forward the green transition in the country.”
Stuart Livesey, CEO of Copenhagen Offshore Partners Vietnam said, "This important milestone is the result of more than two years of engaged dialogue and relationship building, and it opens the door for our COP and CIP teams to come together with Petro Vietnam and support Vietnam’s national survey strategy and work towards delivering of the country’s first offshore wind pilot projects."
CIP has a market leading renewables pipeline of more than 120GW in more than 20 countries and territories including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
The CIP offshore wind portfolio currently consists of nearly 60GW of projects in development, construction and operations phases spread across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
In Vietnam, CIP along with Asiapetro and Novasia is developing the La Gan offshore wind farm in Binh Thuan. The La Gan project has a projected capacity of 3.5GW when fully developed, with a total estimated investment of $10.5 billion.
When fully established, La Gan is expected to power more than seven million Vietnamese households and require over 45,000 jobs, demonstrating CIP’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s transition to a sustainable and green economy.
