Ha, renowned for her journey from a blind cook to a master chef, will serve as Goodwill Ambassador 2014 for the event at the Park Hyatt Saigon hotel, organised by KOTO (Know One Teach One), an Australian-Vietnamese charity for underprivileged youth in Vietnam.
Vietnamese American Ha will join the hotel’s executive chef Marco Torre and Pots ‘n Pans sous chef Phuong Doan in the kitchen where the three will design and serve a menu exclusive to the event. The ticket price per guest is VND3 million ($143).
The event’s main sponsors are Singapore Airlines, VinaCapital’s Lotus Impact Management, Park Hyatt Saigon, An Nam Group, Warehouse, and Small Giants.
All proceeds from the dinner will go to the KOTO vocational training programme, and specifically toward funding the construction of a training school in Ho Chi Minh City.
Christine Ha, whose Vietnamese name is Ha Huyen Tran, was the first blind contestant in the history of MasterChef USA. Her first cookbook – Recipes from My Home Kitchen – has been published and she will serve as a role model for the KOTO trainees.
