Sponsored by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the road is designed to connect Nguyen Dinh Chieu pedestrian street with Ly Tu Trong Park.
With the cost of over 60 billion VND (2.64 million USD), the road will be accompanied by elegant designs of a port, a lotus pond, and a small square, among others.
Its parquet floor, costing 5.73 billion VND (around 252,000 USD), will use ironwood which is said to be suitable to the city’s landscape and weather. The KOICA management board said the natural material is easy to process, woodworm-free, non-distorted in hot and humid weather, and has good bearing capacity.
Nguyen Van Thanh, Chairman of the municipal Hue People’s Committee, said the city had made public all information related to the timber-floored road to collect feedback before the construction. The rate of agreement among locals was at 90.62 percent, he added.
The road is part of a planning project for 15 km of Huong riverbanks from Vong Canh hill to Bao Vinh ancient street. The project is estimated to cost 6 million USD funded by KOICA as non-refundable assistance.
