Vietnam’s golden superstars supported through SABECO |
For over a decade, the Vietnamese government has promoted collaboration between state management agencies and the business community in developing national sports.
As a result of this heavy promotion, at SEA Games 32 in May, Vietnam earned 359 medals, including 136 golds. This was the first time that Vietnam ranked first in the event while not being the host country, and it was the third time of topping the table in total.
SABECO has backed high-achieving Vietnamese sporting talent with financial support to continue their journey |
Last year, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism as well as the Sports Authority of Vietnam (SAV), Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO) through its Bia Saigon brand launched the “Vietnam Wins Gold” initiative, contributing VND5 billion ($208,300) to support Vietnam’s sporting talent to practice and compete, and improve their performance in international arenas.
SABECO has strived to support the development of Vietnamese sport for upcoming events such as the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, and the 2024 Olympics in Paris. It also honoured high-achieving sporting talent by awarding VND2.89 billion (over $120,400) to gold winners at the SEA Games this year, which took place in Cambodia.
Along with many other enterprises that make contributions to sporting development, donations of SABECO are transferred to the SAV to provide monthly financial support for athletes, support travel expenses, and purchase training equipment for sports such as archery and badminton.

Meanwhile, SABECO and Bia Saigon are also the principal sponsors of the documentary film “Vietnam - Where are you?” about the national women’s football team.
The film, created by the Vietnam Football Federation in partnership with producer ViewFinder, is set to be released in October to coincide with Vietnamese Women’s Day.
It will cover the women’s team’s path to World Cup 2023, which takes place from July 20, and aims to foster understanding of the exploits of female players and offer greater attention to the females of Vietnamese football.
Venus Teoh Kim Wei, deputy general director of Marketing and Communications at SABECO, said that it is difficult to support the development of Vietnamese sports without athletes. Such stars represent Vietnam at international events and the victors are always a huge inspiration to everyone, evoking national pride.
“As a result, Bia Saigon’s support initiative focuses on athlete development in order to bring the best athletes to Vietnamese sports,” she said.
In addition to professional sports, SABECO is a well-known sponsor of many community sporting competitions in order to promote sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
For example, the “Strengthening Sport” initiative in collaboration with the Central Youth Union seeks to construct 30 public sports grounds.
While sport has played a vital part in Vietnam’s development and the country has achieved much in the region for years, infrastructure facilities for athletes still remain below standard. SABECO, therefore, is dedicated to rectifying this through sustainable development, which revolves around the pillars of country, culture, conservation, and consumption.
With nearly 150 years of brewing history, SABECO has established itself as one of Vietnam’s top beverage companies. It boasts 26 breweries and 11 trading subsidiaries, and has a distribution network consisting of thousands of retailers nationwide.
SABECO is proud to offer a brand portfolio that consists of some of the most well-loved beer brands in Vietnam, including Lac Viet, Bia Saigon Chill, Bia 333, Bia Saigon Special, Bia Saigon Export, Bia Saigon Lager, and Bia Saigon Gold.
